This
program will examine sexuality within the context of the aging
population. Resident's Rights allow for the freedom of expression
of one's sexuality, however conflict with policy and standards
of decency create uncertain and inconsistent reactions by
staff. The session focuses on the sexual needs and behaviors
residents bring to the long-term care environment. We challenge
your employees' attitudes regarding this topic and help them
recognize how they may influence their expectations of residents.
We propose a criterion by which the staff determines when
to intervene, when to accommodate and when to ignore the activity.
Three
key topics to be discussed:
- Value
of residents remaining sexually active
- Common
barriers to intimacy that exists in the long term care environment
- Techniques
of intervention and/or accommodation
