Mr.
Duane Parsons
Kroger Company
Dear
Mr. Parsons:
John
Luken and Linda Nugent, publishers of "Your Guide
Along the Road to Recovery", asked me to analyze
prescription usage as it relates to their client, Kroger,
to better determine the extent to which Kroger is benefiting
from sponsorship of the Guide. As president of the Association
of Family Practice Physicians, I am uniquely aware of studies
that indicate that over 75% of all patients leave an office
visit requiring at least one prescription drug to be obtained
from a pharmacy within a 24 hour period. One of the biggest
obstacles to effective care has been a patient's failure to
take medications as prescribed because of distance and other
inconveniences. The easily reference list of pharmacies on
the back of the Guide means that prescriptions can be filled
at neighborhood Kroger stores on the way home from the doctor's
office.
Both
my office staff and I have found the Guide to be an extremely
helpful tool in encouraging patients to take an active role
in their own health care. The Guide is relevant to both patients
who schedule office visits as well as hospital patients under
my supervision. My experience has shown hat approximately
95% of my patients who are discharged from the hospital will
need to have a prescription filled for some type of medication
to be taken that evening. Neighborhood pharmacies can be easily
reference by a glance at the back cover. We hope Kroger will
continue to help bring this kind of much needed information
into hospitals and physician offices through sponsorship of
the Guide.
Sincerely,
Robert
Nold, M.D.
